About PSR
PSR was established in July 1994 as an agency within the Health Portfolio. It is independent of
the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and Medicare Australia. PSR examines suspected cases of inappropriate practice
referred by Medicare Australia.
As an independent authority, PSR contributes to ensuring access through Medicare to cost-effective medical services, medicines and health care for all Australians.
Our mission is to positively contribute to the provision of quality and cost effective health care to all Australians through the assessment of health practitioners conduct within the Medical Benefits and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
We share a set of Australian Public Service (APS) Values and the Code of Conduct that the Parliament has set out under the Public Service Act 1999. These describe the public interest features of the APS and the behaviours that define the way we conduct ourselves professionally.
Our specific agency values are underpinned by these APS Values and address the unique aspects of our business environment.
PSR's Values and Behaviours which direct the way in which we carry out our work are:
- Acting with professionalism, fairness, consistency, impartiality and integrity;
- Demonstrating dedication and commitment;
- Valuing and respecting each other and working as a team; and
- Showing timeliness.
