Note 4: Going Concern
Professional Services Review has undergone a significant downturn in workload over the past two years as a result of a change to Medicare Australia's procedures in developing requests for review. The table below indicates the number of requests that Professional Services Review has received from Medicare Australia. The reduced workflow from Medicare Australia has resulted in a considerable reduction in PSR's workforce.

A major review of the PSR Scheme is to be completed, in September 2006, with draft recommendations aimed at shortening the Medicare Australia processes, with the intention of increasing requests for review numbers. The Scheme continues to receive support from both sides of Parliament as well as the medical profession and it is anticipated that it will continue as a going concern in its currents structure.
