Report on performance

Scenario 3

The patient was a 57-year-old male who presented with depression (following a divorce) and for repeat prescriptions. The service provided was an MBS item 36, level C consultation.

Transcript of part of the discussion with the practitioner reads:

Committee Member And can you tell me why you've prescribed 100 Panadeine Forte?

Practitioner This guy is a chronic patient - let me just go back. I'm just trying to think of what his - I'm just trying to think whether he had an authority or what. I'm sorry, I can't remember - I can't see an authority here, but - when he's filled out the history on 16 April he hasn't said much about pain at that stage, but he usually talks about backaches and headaches and so on, but they're not ---

Committee Member Where is that documented where he talks about backaches and headaches?

Practitioner It's documented up here with me, sort of something that he's told ---

Committee Member Whereabouts, sorry? What page?

Practitioner No, I said he's told me that he gets headaches at times and - but nothing - nothing, no big deal. There has been a request for some Panadeine Forte before this. He was worried about his sex life at this stage.
