Ecologically sustainable development and environmental performance
Section 516A of the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 requires that PSR report its contribution to ecologically sustainable development.
PSR’s small size and specific role limit its opportunities to contribute to ecologically sustainable development; however, PSR endeavours to reduce its energy costs and encourages ecologically sustainable practices, such as paper recycling and greater reliance on electronic records in preference to paper. During 2007–08 PSR participated in 2008 Earth Hour, and PSR’s only vehicle is the environmentally friendly and fuel efficient hybrid Toyota Prius.
None of PSR’s activities are relevant to ecologically sustainable development in terms of the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and the PSR outcome listed in the Portfolio Budget Statements for 2007–08 does not contribute to ecologically sustainable development.
