Management and accountability
Management of human resources
The increase in PSR’s workload during 2007–08 and the change program resulting from PSR’s review of its business processes and organisational structure gave rise to a range of human resource management challenges.
At 30 June 2008 PSR employed 25 staff – an increase of 40 per cent since 30 June 2007.
The Management Committee oversaw PSR’s review of its business processes and resulting organisational restructuring, using recognised change management principles. A detailed plan was developed, involving extensive staff consultation and feedback. New job descriptions were developed for all operational positions, and staff were given the opportunity to express their preferences for the roles they would play in the new structure. Training and development for all staff to give full effect to the new structure will continue through 2008–09.
To help meet its human resource management challenges, PSR conducted a tender process to secure expert assistance to review and redevelop human resources plans, policies and guidelines. A contractor was engaged to review and redevelop PSR’s policies and plans on:
- health and safety management arrangements
- health and wellbeing
- occupational health and safety policies
- prevention of bullying in the workplace
- recruitment, retention and attraction
- workforce plan
- workplace diversity.
Work on the new policies and plans will continue through 2008–09.
