Training for Panel Members, Deputy Directors and Determining Authority Members
Following a successful pilot program in 2006–07, a workshop was held in November 2007 for 12 panel members to prepare them for participation in a PSR committee.
The workshop covered:
- analysis of Medicare Australia data
- analysis of patient records
- procedural and legal requirements
- questioning techniques
- understanding and analysing the issues raised in the Medicare Australia request to review.
A further two-day workshop was held for seven members of the Determining Authority in February 2008. The agenda covered:
- a review of the past year’s activities
- recent outcomes in court cases
- good administrative decision making
- in-depth analysis of case studies.
Nineteen Deputy Directors and the Chair of the Determining Authority attended the annual Deputy Directors’ conference, held in May 2008. The conference agenda covered:
- a review of the past year’s activities
- revised procedures for managing Committee hearings
- recent court decisions and the status of the constitutional challenge
- feedback from the Determining Authority
- review and input into business and strategic planning for 2008–10.
Staff members attended the training workshops and conference to share in the development and training provided and to build productive working relationships with panel members, Deputy Directors and members of the Determining Authority.
